Senseo only hums but gives no water.

There is a very small hole in the pod holder. It must be clean and definitely not blocked. Opened Senseo lid with blocked pod holder

  • If the machine is on and indicates that you can brew coffee, but nothing happens (when pressing the button for one or two cups), the pod holder is likely blocked.
  • Make sure the hole in the pod holder is open.
  • With older pod holders you can use a needle to pierce the hole to remove limescale and dirt.

Does the machine keep humming without giving water?

  • If the Senseo hums (this is the pump) but no coffee comes out, and the hole in the pod holder is clean, the cause can be:
  • the pump is defective
  • the three-way valve is broken
  • the hose that runs to the spray head
  • resetting the Senseo

Does the light on the Senseo keep blinking?

  • If there is enough water in the water tank, the float is probably not working. This float contains a small magnet that signals to the Senseo whether there is enough water in the water tank. This magnet can also rust if the float is leaking. For a number of water tanks you can replace the magnet. Follow this link to find out how to replace the magnet.
  • Make sure the float can move freely in the water tank. Clean the water tank thoroughly. DO NOT USE BOILING HOT WATER, as this causes the water tank to warp, which makes the float get stuck.

Is water leaking at the water tank?

  • The water tank sits in a rubber ring (water valve). That rubber ring (water valve) must seal properly against the bottom of the water tank. When you remove the water tank from the Senseo, the rubber edge must be fully visible. So no plastic may cover the edge, because then the water tank will not seal properly. If this is the case, you need to center the rubber ring properly in the housing. If water leaks out without the water tank being in place, the three-way valve is probably broken.
